Adventure is Right at Your Doorstep

21Rum Island Park & Springs on the Santa Fe River directly adjoins Rum Island Retreat.  Take the woodsy path from your backyard to the park entrance, where you’ll find river access, boat ramp, picnicking areas, and the pure, natural spring where you can snorkel, dive, swim and canoe.  Click any image for a larger view.

Enjoy kayaking up the river from Rum Island to Lily Springs about a 30-minute paddle.  Poe Springs is a little further upstream about a 15-minute paddle.  Just down river from Rum island Springs is Blue Springs, a 10-minute paddle, then Ginny Springs, July Springs and other small springs.  See the river map.


Fishing Licenses
A fishing License is needed for ages 14 and up. Licenses for 3 days are $17.95 and available in downtown High Springs at the True Value on South Main Street.

Explore the Area
Visit all the beautiful springs along the Santa Fe River, and enjoy dining, shopping and sightseeing in the nearby historic town of High Springs.  Click any image for a larger view.

There are ancient Native American grounds up and down the Santa Fe River.  The Natural History Museum in Gainesville has many prehistoric animals featured–a must see for adults and children. They also feature a Butterfly Garden extravaganza.  See the brochure in the cabin for your convenience, and ask Wanda about other places to explore.

Go tubing and float down the Ichetucknee River starting Memorial Day weekend and experience the pristine, clear spring fed river where you can see all the way to the bottom.   Bring your mask and snorkel!

O’Leno State Park has a swinging bridge, a museum, beach and springs.  You can take beautiful nature walks through the vast forest there.
